"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it." Ephesians 5:25
Unfortunately, many men get the idea that because the Bible says they are to be the head of the home, they are to make their wives do this and that.
But let me ask you a question: Has Jesus Christ ever made you do anything? Has He ever made you pray? Has He ever made you give to the church? Has He ever made you witness to your neighbor? The answer is no- certainly not. And yet He's the head of the church! That's because Jesus knows that when we force someone to do something, that person will not respond out of love but out of bitterness or fear.
How many marriages could be changed if husbands realized it is not their job to force their wives into submission? Their job is to lead lovingly, not to treat their wives as inferiors and themselves as superiors. If a man is not leading his wife lovingly, he's not treating her as Christ treats the church.
That means husbands should show their wives more love, tenderness, and patience. They should try to be a little more romantic- because that's what brings women pleasure.
Husband, are you leading by love- or by force?
