"Happily Ever After..."

How is it possible to live...happily ever after?  Is there such a thing?

It has been said, "Marriages are made in heaven, but they are worked out on earth."  I believe that God does have a plan for each of our lives- including our marriages.  I also believe that God has our spouses picked out for us...He picked out Eve for Adam.  Taking this into account- marriages are made in heaven.  So, the first thing we need to do before marrying would be to seek the Lord concerning the person He has planned for us to spend the rest of our lives with.

When you find God's will in marriage, it then does have to be lived out on earth the rest of the days of your life.  Though God's will starts out in heaven, it doesn't stay there; it's manifested in the earth.  "Thy kingdom come.  Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10)

In order to live God's will out on earth, we have to have God's Word to lead and guide us.  In this article I just want to list some of the scriptures on the subject of marriage.  It's through the scriptures that we can walk out God's will in our marriages.  The scriptures are our best counselor.  As we follow and apply them to our marriages, then we will have a much greater chance of achieving a marriage that is "happily ever after".

"Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun."  Ecclesiastes 9:9a

Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well."  Proverbs 5:15

"May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth.  A loving doe, a graceful deer- may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be captivated by her love.  Why be captivated, my son, by an adulteress?  Why embrace the bosom of another man's wife?"  Proverbs 5:18-20

"The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband."
1 Corinthians 7:3

"Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.  For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior."  Ephesians 5:22,23

"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her."  Ephesians 5:25

"In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies.  He who loves his wife loves himself."  Ephesians 5:28

"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."  Ephesians 5:31

"If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever."  1 Timothy 5:8

"Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.  Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them."  Colossians 3:18,19

"Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers."  1 Peter 3:7

"Then they can train the younger women to love their husbvands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God."  Titus 2:4,5
